The game is on!

I've just got the news and I'm shaking with excitement! My girlfriend and future wife has been accepted to Lund university for a masters degree in Biotechnology. This means that we are moving to Sweden!

I am so proud of my wife-to-be!
I have agreed to help my significant other with her life dream of living & studying in Sweden about a year ago, but until today it was all just a distant dream. Now it's real and the game is on! We have about four months or so to get everything ready and move. For me that will mean leaving my current position and finding a suitable programming job; for my dearest a race to get all her school duties finished in time.

I've created this blog to document my move to Sweden with everything that that entails: learning the language (basics for starters), finding a programming job (C# back-end suits me best), finding an apartment for the two of us and finally (hopefully) living in Lund, Sweden.

I figured that documenting such a big endeavor as moving to another country should be well documented so others can learn from my successes and mistakes. And of course, I need all the help I can get with every step along the way. Hopefully this blog will allow me to meet many friendly citizens who will be able to aid me with knowledge and advice.

All that is yet to come in the next weeks and months. Right now I need to keep calm and carry on!

The next step: Introduce myself and hopefully get in contact with someone Swedish!

But enough about me, how have you been?

  1. Hi! Saw your post on reddit. As a computer science student living in Lund, I'd love to help you out any way I can. Being from the city myself, I can't say I know a lot about making the actual move here. Although, I do know a bunch of people who have moved here from abroad (mostly the United States). Perhaps I could listen in on a hint from one of them?

    cheers /J

    1. Hi J. Westholm!

Ah an fellow CS student, excellent :) Thanks, that is very kind. Yes, I would welcome any advice you and your friends have to offer!

For now I would love if you could share the website with everyone you feel may be interested. I think all the questions one could have will arise here at one time or another and just knowing there is someone out there listening will make it so much easier for me to ask!

If you or any of your friends from abroad use Google Plus I would love to add you to my circles so we can stay in touch.

      Thank you

  2. Hey! Welcome to Sweden(in advance), hopefully u will enjoy it here! Atleast you're going to live in the best part of sweden, the south! I hope everything will go well, and I will follow ur blog. Very interesting =)

Ur able to live in Malmö aswell, only takes like 15 minutes with train! Might be easier finding any apartment, there are some areas to watch out for though.

    1. Hey N.K, thanks for the kind words!

It's good to hear we're moving to the right part of your beautiful country! For now I have only seen pictures (my GF has been to Stockholm before) but even on those your region just looks spectacular and we are both very excited!

Thank you for your advice. We will be trying to minimize our commute time, however Malmö does sound like a great compromise. It will all depend on my job, etc.

It would mean the world to me (us) if you would continue to read this blog. It is always good to know there is a friendly face on the other side of the browser :)

      Thanks for replying,
      David

    1. Hello Einar Smith,

      Wow you are so kind!

For now I would really appreciate if you would stick around this blog. I figure every question I have will eventually be posted here sooner or later. Furthermore, knowing that there is a friendly face out there, reading, really helps with the writing! :)

I've circled you on Google Plus, hopefully that is ok with you. Just having a contact in Lund is already such a good sign :)

      Thanks for replying,
      David
